Places of Interest
The city´s main public library, ´La Biblioteca Nacional´ is in the Parque de la Cultura, as is the Valencian Museum of Illustration and Modernity, known as the MuVim.
El Pilar also boasts the Mercado Central - Europe´s largest indoor market, open 6am-2pm Monday to Saturday, next to which stands the Iglesia de los Santos Juanes.
There is also the magnificent Lonja building, with its spectacular columns and orange grove.
Shops and Facilities
You will find everything you need in the district of El Pilar, from supermarkets to solaria and alternative therapy boutiques through chemists, a myriad of bars and restaurants, clothes and shoe shops and even a quaint violin maker´s workshop on Calle Teresa.
Cash points can be found on the two main streets - Calle Barón de Carcer and Gran Vía Fernando ´El Católico´.
NB. Avoid Calle del Triador if possible - it is a bit of a shady area with a lot of people hanging around, watching people walk by.
Parks and Children
Next to the National library and bordered by Calles Hospital and Guillén de Castro is the Parque de la Cultura.
There is a small children´s play area just in front of Caprabo Supermarket on the corner of Avenida Barón de Carcer and Calle Hospital.
